TikTok adds notifications curfew for those under 13 and other changes

TikTok has announced a series of novelties designed to protect underage users who use their platform, as a complement to the Family Synchronization that was added last year.

Of all of them, probably the most curious is the notifications curfew, which will automatically silence notifications after a certain time for users under 17 years of age. In addition, the application changes the default options and includes additional explanations about messaging, downloading and privacy of a new video.

Curfew for notifications

TikTok has long included the option to control and limit the time of use in the application. Now comes something related, although slightly different: After a certain time, notifications will not arrive for minors who use the app.

Specifically, users who are between 13 and 15 years old they will stop receiving notifications after 21:00, while users who are between 16 and 17 years old will have one more notification hour: they will stop ringing at 22:00. Users of legal age will continue to receive notifications as usual.

Other changes for minors on TikTok

Other changes

This is not the only one that will begin to apply to underage TikTok users. New users aged 16 or 17 will have active the messaging settings preconfigured as Nobody, although you can change these settings manually from the settings. Existing users will receive a notification to renew their privacy options. Users under the age of 16 have messaging disabled.

Other changes are related to who can view and download the videos of minors. The application will show a warning the first time that a user under 16 videos tries to publish their first video, asking who they want to be able to see that video. The default setting is for private accounts for those between the ages of 13 and 15. These accounts can only share with friends or followers, not with All.

Finally, users who are 16 or 17 years old will receive a notification to confirm the download options, that is, who wants to be able to download their TikTok videos directly from the application. User accounts under the age of 16 have downloads disabled.
