This will be the reactions of WhatsApp, according to WaBetaInfo

A few weeks ago we learned that WhatsApp was working on bringing reactions to its chats, in a similar way to how it works for example on Facebook Messenger or Instagram. Now we have the first screenshots of what they look like, from the hand of WaBetaInfo.

As a function in development, it could still change before the final version, but the test version lets us see that visually they would be similar to the rest of the reactions, being able to use any emoji as a reaction and with the possibility of adding as many reactions as you want.

Emojis to react to messages

Until now, the only way to reply to a message on WhatsApp is by sending something back: be it a written reply, an emoji, sticker, animated GIF or photo. If you have the read notification activated, reading the message is also an answer in itself, although the interpretation depends on the recipient of the message. WhatsApp is preparing a new way of reply to messages without actually replying, through reactions.

Reactions are on their way to WhatsApp, after having done the same in other messaging applications and social networks such as Facebook. Now WaBetaInfo offers us more details about how they will look and how will WhatsApp reactions work.

Regarding the appearance, few surprises. In the first and only screenshot of the WhatsApp reactions that has been filtered, we see a message with several reactions, which are displayed at the bottom of the message with the emojis that were used.

WaBetaInfo gives us some additional details, such as the fact that you can use any emoji to react to a message, unlike on Facebook, where there are seven fixed reactions to choose from.

Reactions will be available in groups and individual chats, and any user can see who has reacted with what. Like the rest of communications on WhatsApp, the reactions will be sent end-to-end encrypted and it will be possible send as many reactions as you want to the same message. At the moment it is not known when they will be activated for users.
