Instagram completely changes its navigation menu: goodbye store, hello create content

Meta isn’t entirely happy with the way Instagram offers access to the various sections of the app. Following numerous changes where access to content creation was moved from the main menu, Instagram will pick it up. And there is a victim: the icon of the store. Purchases will have less presence on the social network.

We have lost count of all the times that Instagram has changed the interface of its mobile applications. Generally, every time the social network pointed to a type of content, all the apps changed their menus; such as after the introduction of Stories or due to the siege of its main competitor with Instagram Reels. In one of the movements, access to purchases was intended to improve the conversion of businesses. Now, Instagram recovers its interest in user content.

Mission “Recover the original content” underway

Instagram Menu Navigation

This is how the navigation menu should look with the next Instagram changes

Instagram has gone through several eras: from the time when it dominated the scene to the current era in which Meta sees how TikTok is stealing not only its popularity, but also the attention of young people; the one that was the main public of Instagram. Since the social network owned by Meta favored branded content with direct access to purchases to the detriment of its users’ photos and videosthe company decides to change its strategy.

TikTok represents the biggest threat to Instagram; so its navigation menu does not leave the direct access to the Reels, it will change its position. With another major change: users finally recover direct access to content creation right where it should stay, in the bottom main menu.

As Meta itself has reported, Instagram will change its mobile applications as follows:

  • The shortcut to the store disappears from the main menu. This does not mean that purchases on the social network will cease to exist: simply, the links to the products will continue to appear in the content uploaded by the brands.
  • The Reels icon moves one position to the right. It still has a great presence for Instagram, although it is less relevant.
  • Instagram recovers direct access to content creation in the main menu. Since Instagram has realized that the only way to compete with TikTok is to encourage the creation of original content, the button to upload photos and videos is placed in the central access of the bottom navigation menu.

The stores lose presence in favor of the users; that we finally recovered the button that we lost at the time, right in the main navigation area. All of these changes will begin to roll out in February.. And they will be coming to the Instagram application for iPhone and also for Android.
