I never thought cache was a problem until I saw what these apps were stealing: I gained 3GB just by clearing them

the cache is that silent enemy that is destroying the storage of our mobile. It may seem like an exaggeration, but it’s really something you don’t consider until you start to see that your memory is practically full and you haven’t even taken as many photos as you should or have half a Play Store downloaded.

It’s a problem no matter how much internal storage you have (although there are tricks to gain something more), but don’t worry because We are going to teach you how to clean the mobile cachewhat happens if you delete it and how to do it properly so as not to delete the data of your session in an application.

What happens if you clear the cache and what is the difference with clear data?

Currently, mobiles usually come with a minimum of 128 GB of storage. However, you may have something less in your terminal or, for whatever reason, you need to save some space. That’s whyit is always a good idea to review what applications consume.

You don’t have to do it every week, you can even go a few months without noticing, but from time to time it’s good to go through the phone’s storage or applications section because it’s not only useful to see which apps are using up memory due to huge amounts of cache, but you can discover something else.

For example, browsing the applications to make this article, I have seen that I had more than 11 GB of storage occupied only by SkyShowtime. When I investigated what the downloads occupy in different streaming apps, I forgot to delete the data later and I had a nonsense stored there. So I took advantage and cleaned that up.

But since I’m with SkyShowtime, had 480 MB cache, enough for what I really use the application on the mobile, but it is not the only one. Taking a cursory glance I saw that TikTok was 584 MB, Chrome 718 MB, Apple Music 559 MB and YouTube 538 MB.

So clearing the cache for those five apps gained me just over 2.8 GB. Before telling you how to clear the cache of the apps, let’s briefly see what the cache is. Basically, and in a nutshell, They are temporary files that applications save. These are those files that must be created every time we access different parts of the app, or navigate, and that are saved so that we do not have to download them again.

Cache

Thus, access is somewhat faster, but over time there are applications in which you can have a problem because huge amounts of small data accumulate that, in the end, form a big snowball. In fact, if you have been using your current mobile for several years, surely you will have a lot of storage space “eaten” only by the cache. If you delete it, it may go a little slower at first (negligible), but you won’t lose anything.

Now yes, to see what occupies the cache of an application, you can access through:

  • ‘Applications’ section in the configuration menu.
  • ‘Storage’ section in the configuration menu.

When you locate the app whose cache you want to purge, select it and you’ll see a ‘Data and cache’ section, or something like that. If you click on it, you will see how much space the data is consuming and how much the cache. In the case of Telegram, my cache is barely 50 Mb while the rest of the data is more than 1.3 GB.

Cache 2

Within that section you have the option to ‘Clear cache’ or ‘Clear storage’. If you select the first, you will only clear the cache and the app will continue to work as usual. If you clear the storage on TikTok, for example, you don’t delete the app, but you will have to log in again and some downloads may have been lost.

So, when you have a little while, take a look at your mobile settings because you may be in for a surprise. In fact, In the writing we have caught a mobile with 1.6 GB of cache Chrome only…
