One of the great claims of Instagram users finally appears in mobile apps: completely deleting the account is now available as an option built into the Instagram app for iPhone. Also the temporary deletion of the account: it is no longer essential to access the website to delete it.
As is the case with most web services and applications, it is very easy to sign up for Instagram and quite complicated to delete the account once the user has regretted keeping it. Instagram always hid the deletion of the account since it required a process through the Meta website that was hidden from the user. That has changed, but only for iPhone. Android users will have to wait..
Delete the account permanently or temporarily
The change in the way it works stems from a rule imposed by Apple on all developers in the App Store: each application that offers the possibility of open an account from the app it also has to offer the deletion of said account in the same way, from that same app. And that is exactly what is already happening with Instagram.
All users who use Instagram on their iPhone, or the mobile application on the iPad, now have the possibility to delete your account without leaving the app. Goodbye to complications and with two types of accessible deletion: the temporary one, to give a certain margin of recovery, and the definitive one. Before proceeding with the deletion, it is important to assess whether you really want to delete the account.
The steps to delete Instagram account from iPhone are as follows:
- Before starting to delete your account, our recommendation is that you first download all your photos and videos in order to have a backup of what you have uploaded to Instagram.
- Open your Instagram app on the iPhone (or iPad).
- Go to your profile (bottom right, in the bottom menu) and click on the three top menu bars.
- Select “Settings.”
- Go to “Account”.
- Click on “Delete account” and choose if you want a temporary deletion (“Deactivate account”) or if you want to delete your Instagram completely (“Delete account”).
If you choose to delete the account completely you will have a period of 30 days during which you can recover it just by logging in again. If during those 30 days you do not use Instagram at all, your account will disappear forever; along with all the photos, comments, videos, Reels and Stories you have uploaded.
This process is not yet available on Android phones. In the event that you want to delete your Instagram account, and you have an Android mobile, you can delete it by following the usual deletion process.
