Android 12: how to download and install the beta on your mobile

Android 12 is now official: we have the first beta among us, after Google I / O 2021. The new version comes with big changes, especially at the aesthetic level, also including a few new functions. As usual, the first devices to download this version are the Google Pixel, and Google has already published the official files to download. You can update now manually, or you can wait for the OTA.

We are going to tell you how can you update your compatible mobile, since there are several processes that we can carry out. You must bear in mind that this version is still a beta, so it is not recommended to install it on your main mobile. With that cleared up, let’s see how we can get hold of Android 12 beta 1.

The easiest step to update to Android 12 is to do it via OTA. For this we will have to go to the website of the Android 12 beta program and register our compatible device. We just have to click “participate” so that Google keep us in mind when launching the OTA.

Once you have registered in the program the OTA will end up arriving at your terminal. It is not something immediate, so it may take a few hours to see this OTA on your phone. In the event that it does not appear, you can always check if you have the update manually. To do this, you must enter Settings> System> Advanced> System update within your mobile and go looking for updates until it reaches you.

Download and install the ROM manually

Pixel

The fastest way to install Android 12 is to do it manually, directly downloading the file and without having to wait for the OTA. The easy way to do it is to download the Flash Tools from Google, connect the mobile to the computer and wait for the whole process to be done by itself.

Flash Tools will automatically download the latest supported version and install it on your Pixel. Even if it does it automatically, you are installing a beta ROM, so we recommend being aware of the process we are doing.

The option for experts, in case we have the bootloader unlocked, is install ROM using Fastboot. To do this, you must follow these steps:

  • Download the file from the Google page
  • Activate the developer options of your mobile
  • Connect the phone to the PC to a command console using fastboot mode
  • Open the file you downloaded on your PC

  • Run the file with the extension flash.all

As its name suggests, the flash.all file it will flash all the ROM files on your phone. It is only necessary that it is connected to the PC through a command console so that they can communicate.
